This week Erie participated in the Hour of Code. The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify computer coding and show that anybody can learn the basics. 5th-8th graders at Erie participated in tech class and wrote over 10,000 lines of code last week! Some students liked it so much, they've been asking to play during free class time. "My favorite part of the Hour of Code was moving the Angry Birds with blocks of code." The Hour of Code teamed up with Computer Science Education Week. Activities could be found on lots of different websites like the Khan Academy, Lightbot, Code Combat, Bitsbox, MakeSchool, and more! | "I liked Code Combat because I could see the code I was typing and what it made the game do." Activities on code.org featured Anna & Elsa from Frozen, Angry Bird, Flappy bird, and Plants vs. Zombies. The videos featured celebrities like Mark Zuckerburg, Bill Gates, Ashton Kutcher, Shakira, Chris Bosh, and Dwight Howard. The Hour of Code was also supported by prominent political figures like Newt Gingrich, Arnie Duncan, and Barack Obama! "I loved the Hour of Code because one of the games was Frozen themed!" Want to know more about Code.org or write a few lines of code yourself? Check out code.org/learn, choose an activity, and join in today! |
